I hope they have the common sense to understand that Sunny Leon ‘Pink Lips’ in Hate Story 2 did not sell the movie in Goa and they don’t end up going back with ‘Black Lips’ like some of the defaced posters. It provides the much-needed entertainment to an otherwise routine storyline of elections. More importantly, Mamata Banerjee is no Satyajit Ray to have a regional, national and global fan following and neither has Prashant Kishor got any idea of Goan taste buds when it comes to movies on Elections.īut I am glad TMC is in Goa. We, Goans like our Konkani movies and Tiatrs with all their melodramas, songs, and messages. Let me be brutally honest, no Bengali movie has ever caught the fancy of Goans, and certainly no Bengali item numbers. While Goa is a good market for Hindi and English movies. They will take your money, enjoy the item number but are more interested in the real actors and the real movie being played out. It will work with the side-dancers because they need to have a job but not the voters, because the voters do not care about your money. No matter what their attempts at Gonychi (Bags) Navi Sakal, their first Herculean blunder in Goa, which is also really their way of operating in the state right now, splurge money, try to allure the political leaders with money and people too. The TMC role in the Goa Election is nothing more than an item number with a dancer from Bengal and a few local out-of-political relevance side-dancers. Our Konkani movies normally do not have ‘item numbers’, they do have good actors and good storylines. But to think that Goans would get aroused and fall at their feet because of their sensuous ‘item number’ is to think little of Goans. And I have absolutely no problem with this decision of Mamata Banerjee and Prashant Kishor of IPAC. TMC as a political party has every right in our democracy to contest the elections in Goa. They are like decorations we put around our homes during festivals and their only purpose is to make the home look good during a festival, after the festival is over, the decoration goes back in the decoration box on the loft. They are no doubt stellar people in their respected non-political field – Leander Paes and Nafisa Ali – but on their own and with TMC in Goa they have absolutely zero political mileage. Mamata Banerjee’s visit also saw the induction of some new entertainers to the TMC show. Ragini MMS for its lack of script and better direction did have some scary thrill moments. Though I do not subscribe to the idea of defacing posters, I suppose some people in Goa did not want the face on the poster to scare their children.
Of course, it was humorous to see Mamata Banerjee’s post defaced en route to the airport to catch my flight to Delhi. It seems that their intent is to only promote their move ‘Goenchi Navi Sakal’ and it using the brand image of its most bankable star Mamata Banerjee. The mere fact that TMC has taken hoardings all over Goa. There is no role for TMC to play, at least I am not seeing one other than that of an entertainer. TMC is not even a main actor in the Goa Elections. But TMC’s presence to me in Goa is nothing but an item number to provide the entertainment for an otherwise vicious fought electoral battle. But I must say this, with the TMC foray into Goa and the presence of Mamata Banerjee in the state, I could not find a better correlation to express my point of view. You must be wondering what is wrong with me getting everyone’s imagination running wild with Sunny Leone and her Baby Doll avatar. Interestingly, in Ragini MMS 2, Sunny Leone while she did sizzle in the item number, eventually she turned out to be a scare. It was the chutzpah that the otherwise average movie needed, though it was not the movie. I fondly remember Sunny Lone and her ‘Baby Doll’ in Ragini MMS 2. No Bollywood movie in recent times has been complete without an item number.
